Helen Isobel Sissons Award Call for Submissions

P.A.C.E (Canada) is now accepting submissions to the Helen Isobel Sissons Canadian Children's Story Award. This award is a cash grant and is intended to encourage the development of literature for young children.

This is not for a picture book however, but just for a manuscript. In fact I quote: "If illustrations are central to the storyline, a brief description of these should be included with the manuscript. Please do not include original artwork." (from the submission guidelines part. A description of the illustrations, NOT actual illustrations! :)

  1. Hi, my name is Grace and I am an undergraduate Theatre Production student and I have epublished two childrens picture books targeting black children (one for girls and one for boys), as well as created an online blog (http://booksofcolour.blogspot.com) to support my books. My books are meant to empower young black children to want to learn to read and to get creative through the lost art of colouring. Both books are available on amazon.com I am interested in your blog and wonder if you have any helpful advice for a first time teen writer who is passionate about inspiring children of colour to read books where they can relate and identify with the characters. I am not an artist and have utilized real photos (black and white photos re-colored using basic crayons)with hopes of empowering children to use their creativity. Please check my blog and let me know what you think of my project. Thank you so much.
